Here are a couple pics of the message board when I first got it from Goodwill in April.
The chalkboard/magnet side is pretty dingy and beat up, and the ribbon message center side has some stains, and needs to be perked up quite a bit.
This became a wonderful time of bonding for myself and my beautiful 14 year old stepdaughter! We love to craft together, so we got in the car, and after going and spending a couple of hours in our local Sephora putting on makeup and a frappucino at Starbucks, we headed to the fabric store, and bought some supplies.
All we needed was 1 yard of a cute fabric, some ribbon, and some spray paint. She also picked up some wooden letters to make magnets for the chalkboard side of the piece.
We took the entire piece apart. I kept the cushioned fabric from the original piece, and just re-covered it with our new fabric we bought in a bright red paisley pattern. I bought an antique creamy white spray paint, and I primed the piece the day before using a gray spray paint primer.
OK my craft room is a WRECK!! But I just wanted you to see the piece all taken apart.....with a nice coat of the antique white paint!!
This is the original memo board (basically a piece of cardboard covered in batting)
I took our totally luscious piece of fabric, (Emily picked this bc she said it reminded her of Vera Bradley). I began putting the ribbon pieces on (just stapled to the other side) This process only took about 15 minutes.
Here's our FINAL product!!! All the chalkboard side needed was a good wash with a warm soapy washcloth, and it was fine.
Emily made her magnets, and she was thrilled.
The MYOB magnet she just HAD to have.....Mind Your Own Business!!
Doesn't it look like we paid about $50 for this beautiful piece? WHAT A TRANSFORMATION!
I am so excited now, I have to go back to that Goodwill, and find another piece to "rescue"
